¢ Labor Day Parade – New Route for the March
This
year, the labor movement is marching down Michigan Avenue, instead of Woodward
as we have done in past years. All Local 1700 members and your families are
invited to participate.
¢ UAW locals are gathering on Michigan
Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets (between
Trumbull and Rosa Parks).
¢ The start of the Parade will be
at 9:00 am. Join us on Michigan Avenue between 8 and 8:30.
¢ As in the past, free t-shirts
will be provided to Local 1700 members and your families, while they last.
¢ For the first time, the local
will bar-b-que at the parade site, before the parade
takes off.
¢ This year, we anticipate having
a band to head up the Local 1700 delegation!
¢ Next Membership Meeting September 16
The
next regularly scheduled meeting of Local 1700 will be held on Sunday,
September 16, 2012, at 12:00 noon at the Local 1700 Hall, 8230 East 8 Mile Road
in Detroit.
¢ Michigan Collective Bargaining Rights
The
effort to achieve a constitutional amendment to support collective bargaining
rights in Michigan is gaining momentum. The latest contribution comes straight
from Local 1700. See Local 1700 member Stacie Steward talk about the issue: if
you missed it on TV, watch it at ProtectOurJobs.com/rescued.
Remember,
the Michigan deadline to register to vote in this November’s elections is October
9, 2012. Please be sure that you and your family members are registered. If you
need help, contact any union rep.
¢ Members Enjoyed the Family Picnic
Local
1700 members and their families enjoyed the return of our annual Local 1700
Family Picnic. A lot of work went into it and thanks go out to the Recreation
Committee and all those who volunteered their time to make it a success.
¢ Welcome New Members
Local
1700 gained many new members this summer as a result of manpower movement and
hiring in advance of the launch of our new buildings and product. Please join
us in welcoming them to our family.
¢ Local 1700 Election Results and Changes

leaders.
¢ Results of the Mack II Closure
As
a result of the company’s announcement to close the Mack II Engine Plant,
employees with Mack II (or Mound Road) seniority working at other plants will
receive their seniority from the closed plant, in accordance with the language of
the national agreement. At this time, a date for this action has not been
announced. Here at SHAP, there were approximately 75 people who fell under this
category. All either opted to stay at SHAP with their closed plant seniority or
made no option which results in them staying at SHAP with their closed plant
seniority. In accordance with the national agreement, these members will receive
their closed plant seniority when the national parties announce the date for
that action.
¢ Skilled trades from Mack II (and
Mound), currently working on the line at SHAP, will not receive their closed
plant seniority until they are picked back up in the skilled trades.
¢ At this time, we do not know if
other Mack II employees, directly impacted by the closure, will be assigned to
SHAP.
¢ Mack I Return to Home Plant Requests
Members
who have home plant seniority rights to Mack I may wish to submit, or verify a
previous, return to home plant request, in advance of the anticipated expansion
of that plant.
¢ Wage Progression for New Employees
¢ Members Hired as Full-Time Chrysler
Employees During the Life of the 2007 National

of the 2011 contract ratification: employees with 1 year or less of seniority in
October, 2011, will receive $17.53 per hour and those with more than 1 year of
seniority at that time, will receive $18.41 per hour.
¢ Members Hired as Full-Time
Employees Since the 2011 National Agreement
